Main System Components
A fiber optic lighting system is made up of three parts:
· The Light Engine (Illuminator): The central light source (usually a bright LED, halogen, or metal halide lamp) that generates the light and often contains color-changing wheels. This is the only part of the system that requires electricity.
· The Fiber Optic Cables: Bundles of hair-thin strands of glass or plastic (PMMA) that act as "light pipes". They use internal reflection to carry light from the engine to the output without transmitting electricity or heat.
· The End Fittings: The fixtures or lenses at the end of the cables that shape and direct the emitted light.
Application
With the special light source, the end of the optical fiber emits light, and the color is pure and soft.
